Pottery Wheel-Throwing Lesson

Welcome; if you have found this page then you have probably been given a voucher from someone quite wonderful for a Pottery Wheel-Throwing Lesson with us.

Contact us or pop into our shop to book yourself in.

Come and have a go at pottery wheel-throwing in St. Ives and be part of the great tradition of St. Ives Potters Our resident potter Angela has been a trained ceramicist for over 20 years and has run workshops for all ages and abilities.

Your lesson is an introductory course which will last one hour and includes information about making pottery from beginning to end.

You will firstly watch a demonstration, then be given one-to-one tuition while you create various pieces at a relaxed pace.

You will learn about the history and processes of wheel-throwing, including wedging the clay, centering and throwing a cylinder, and the background history of pottery (traditional, industrial, studio). We continue by repeat-throwing a cylinder, then creating a piece of studio/art pottery.

These are make-and-take sessions and you can take two/three pieces away once they have dried enough to transport. Once dried they can be painted and varnished at home if wanted.

We look forward to meeting you.

You can contact us via this form, please include the type of voucher you have and the possible date and time you would like.
